Today, artists have many options for digital drawing software. Some look for high quality results, some an easy to understand program, and some affordability. For those in search of a reliable mixture of these features, FireAlpaca is the place to look.
What is FireAlpaca?
FireAlpaca is a free digital painting program developed by PGN Inc and first released in 2013. The program has over 20 million downloads ranging from 196 countries and supports 10 languages. It supports both Windows and Mac operating systems. FireAlpaca also has a paid version called FireAlpaca SE, which provides high speed processing, exclusive brushes, tool options and more.
FireAlpaca’s Features
FireAlpaca mainly uses raster graphics, but lacks vector graphics. With a plethora of customization from the layout of the interface to the tools themselves, artists can easily create a space unique and comfortable to them:
- It has a built in comic layout creation and basic animation software.
- Interface windows can be resized, relocated and even removed from the interface.
- Brushes have many customization options that can change the texture, stability, opacity and more. If you are looking for something specific, The brush store provides an endless list of free, versatile brushes for any kind of need.
- Shape, symmetry and ruler tools help make precise graphics.
- Filters can adjust colors and create unique textures and patterns.

Review
As a young, beginner artist, FireAlpaca was the perfect and most affordable tool to help me get started making digital art. To this day, I still use the program for most of my digital illustrations. Although it works smoothly for the most part, the program does have minor bugs at times that, while they can be nuisance at times, do not majorly interfere with the program’s functions in the long term.
If you or someone you know is looking to get into digital art, FireAlpaca is a great first step or even a forever favorite.
