Monument Valley (Game) Review

A puzzle game with clean geometric style, satisfying optical illusions and a mysterious story; no wonder it’s still a popular game even 10 years after its launch.

In this beautifully designed mobile app from Ustwo Games, (One of their notable titles being “Assemble With Care” ) you play as Ida, the enigmatic silent princess, navigating her way through many a maze-like tower. With help from a series of moving floors and walls, you’ll do all sorts of stunts to clear the level, including walking upside down, disappearing through doors and avoiding the noisy crow people. You may even get some help from an old friend.

A surreal exploration through fantastical architecture and impossible geometry.

This is a relatively short game (you could breeze through it in an hour, maybe less), consisting of only 10 main levels, but each one is unique and often introduces a new challenge or mechanic you have to figure out. The obstacles are clever and crafty and while they do require some trial and error, finally figuring them out intensely rewarding. The difficulty fluctuates between the levels, and there is a button to ask for a tip if you really get stumped.

This game is normally $3.99 on the App Store and Google Play Store, but if you have a Netflix subscription you’re already paying for, this game is free to download straight from the Netflix app. Just open Netflix like you usually would, and you’ll see it under games or find it with a quick search (or a slow search. No rush)

Paired with vibrant, minimalistic visuals and immersive sound, Monument Valley is a delightful game for anyone who wants a little challenge.
