Sally Lunn’s Tea Room & Restaurant in Chester, NJ

Sally Lunn’s Tea Shoppe and Restaurant has now been in business for 30 years. We are still serving up the best homemade pies, pastries and desserts that you could find anywhere in the States and our mouth-watering buttermilk scones — the recipe still a secret — are as scrumptious as ever.

My family always comes back to this Victorian-styled parlor for their wide variety of teas and homemade British food including sandwiches, Cottage Pie, Lamb and Beef pasties, piled high melts and fresh roasted meats all served on home style bread. They also have imported treats from the UK, and I am obsessed with stocking up on their crunchie bars (chocolate covered honeycomb).

One thing I love about the atmosphere of the place is that it is like a maximalist Grandma decorated it; it’s covered with cottage-core, vintage art and fine china. Elegant yet casual, it’s perfect for Mother’s Day, catching up with the girls or enjoying the spring season since that is the kind of aesthetic the restaurant has in my opinion.

My go-to meal there is their potato salad (a must-have) and Sally’s Fabulous Chicken Pot Pie. It tastes so fresh, and it may be a bit pricey but it’s worth a yearly visit at the very least. Their desserts aren’t too sweet either, rich and light, making it just right to end your meal.
