Wonder Woman 1984 My thoughts…

Wonder Woman is a superhero movie on the surface which faced a lot of criticism but when watching it I found important inspirational messages.

  • Beginning – The movie starts out with a scene of Wonder Woman, Diana as a young kid girl competing in a competition with other warriors. She is winning the race but kept looking behind her causing her to fall off her horse and her horse to run away. She manages to find a path that she can slide down to get ahead of the others and to retrieve her horse. This was technically cheating. Her aunt who is responsible for her training knows what she did, so she stops Diana before won can cross the finish line and win.
  • At this part in the film, I felt frustrated for her as she was so close to getting to the finish line but was stopped. I felt sympathy for her because I know she tried very hard and did her best, but doing her best doesn’t mean she should win.

The theme that heroes aren’t born overnight is very clear in this movie.

Wonder Woman could not have won that race as a child because she wasn’t ready to and wasn’t ready to carry the responsibilities that a leader obtains. Her strength and abilities if placed in the wrong hands, of someone who is inadequate and lacking in character, would he be devastating.

Diana’s Character

  • Diana even further proves her selflessness when she relinquishes her wish of getting her first love and boyfriend back that died in the first Wonder Woman movie. She was originally sacrificing her strength for this wish and because she gave it up, she was able to regain her strength and stop the villain. It took a lot of character and putting aside her own needs to do this.
  • This previous point ties back to the beginning where sacrifices need to be made for the sake of good, character and growth. As a child her aunt pointed up to the golden armor of a solider that sacrificed her life in battle to save all the Amazon’s. She stated that a hero is not born overnight and that a warrior had to go through much hardship to build the honorable character that she had.
  • This plot goes full circle as Diana wears this armor while fighting Barb who was strong like Wonder Woman as barbs wish was to possess wonder woman’s strength and poise. This shows how Diana has grown and is now able to wield the armor of the Amazon warrior that her people admitted and owed their lives too. Diana also wields her strength with morality and respect. Even when fighting Barb, after basically electrocuting her underwater to stop Barbs attacks, Diana brings her back up to the surface saving her life.

Overall, this movie made me feel very inspired. It was a good reminder that taking the hard and narrow path is what reaps the most rewards and what builds you into a patient and strong person. Taking the easy path is great in the moment but will lead to destitution and dissatisfaction later on. It is better to work hard for something then be granted it immediately.
